UEA’s “Mates in Trucking” Initiative, aims to foster a culture of looking out for one during transport activities. This initiative is built around two main components: Training and Assessment, and the heavy vehicle inspection checklist.
The Training and Assessment component is designed to equip our team with the essential knowledge and skills needed to identify and address potential risks. The Mates in Trucking Inspection Checklist is a practical tool that involves pairing up with a mate to perform a thorough walk-around inspection of the truck together. As the saying goes, “two sets of eyes are better than one.” By completing the Mates in Trucking Checklist, we can effectively identify and adhere to clear Chain of Responsibility requirements. These regular checks are crucial for maintaining compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and, most importantly, for ensuring the safety of our workers and the broader community.
