Carramar Rising Main Phase 2

Date of Completion: December 2025

Project Details

Project Overview

West Region Delivery Team awarded UEA the Carramar Rising Main Phase 2 HDD package of works in August 2025. UEA was contracted to complete the design review, drilling and installation of an 880 metre sewer main from Carrawood Park to Landsdowne Reserve to link the main from SP0213 in Carramar to the Northern Georges River Submain.

Construction Technique

To commence the bore UEA’s maxi rig spread was mobilised, including a HK250 rill rig, PZ9 pump and DFE recycling system, and set up just outside of the road reserve within Carrawood Park on Quest Avenue. The pilot bore was drilled utilising a mud motor and Australian made Hardmetals PDC bit, along with the full suite of Vector Magnetics ParaTrack Gyro module and Paratrack Beacon Module to a maximum depth of 45 metres underneath Henry Lawson Drive. A second pilot bore was also drilled via the same method, with the drill pipe temporarily remaining insitu as a drilling fluid return and charge line.

To complete the subsequent 26 inch and final 38 inch reaming pass, a second maxi rig was mobilised to the exit site in Landsdowne Reserve, this included a Vermeer D330 drill rig, V600 mud pump and DFE recycling system. The utilisation of a dual rig spread allowed the reaming passes to be completed efficiently and allowed the back reaming passes to be completed from either side of the project.

Challenges

Due to the limited stringing room available on both sides of the project, the product pipe was welded in three strings along the property boundary in Carrawood Park. Two extended stoppages were required during the pull back to complete the tie in welds.

Completion

The project was completed over a period of five months from August to December 2025. The product pipe passed the post completion hydrostatic pressure test and was installed in Compliance with Sydney Water’s Civil Specification.
