WSAGA Stage One South Creek

Date of Completion: November 2024

Project Details

Project Overview

UEA was engaged as a specialist contractor to deliver a large diameter project for Athassel Civil Pty Ltd, on behalf of Acciona and Sydney Water. UEA’s scope of works tied in the pipeline from Martin Road to Overett Avenue as part of the Prospect South Water Delivery System Drinking Water Infrastructure Stage 2.

Scope of Works

UEA was engaged by Athassel to deliver the HDD component of the WSAGA Stage 1 drinking water pipeline. HDD was selected as the designated methodology to ensure the pipeline could be tied in between Overett Avenue and Martin Road without impacting the sensitive environment along the route. UEA’s Gallagher 660 rig, DFE maxi drilling fluid recycling system and PZ9 mud pump were designated to this project and were utilised to pilot, ream, clean and install the 1000mm PN20 product pipe.

UEA’s scope of works also included welding the product pipe. Due to the space constraints imposed by the nearby Aboriginal Heritage zone and roadway, the pipe was welded into 4 strings, requiring 3 tie-in welds to be completed during the pipe installation. A thorough and extensive planning period was conducted by UEA to ensure there was minimal impact on the traffic flow of the adjacent roadway over the three-day installation period.

Key Project Highlights

  • Successful methodology execution for the welding and stringing of 4 pipe strings with limited space.
  • Pipe installed in compliance with Sydney Water’s Civil Specification.
  • Drilling scope of works delivered in accordance with the budgeted timeframe, taking 51 days.
  • Successfully managed community impacts.
  • Negotiated mixed ground conditions without fluid loss.
